My research is driven by the desire to better understand the dynamics of complex systems.

My research area is "Numerical Mathematics / Scientific Computing" with a strong focus on application problems from the life sciences and in cooperation with partners from the respective application fields and/or economy. I am full professor of mathematics at the Freie Universität Berlin, member of the executive board and co-chair of the DFG Research Center MATHEON, and member of the executive board of the Berlin Mathematical School in the framework of the German excellence initiative.
